How much does cybersecurity cost for an SMB in Spain (real prices)

By Kike Gandia · Co-Founder & CEO, OSCP

One of the questions we get most from managers and IT leads at small and medium businesses is: "how much is this going to cost me?". The honest answer is that it depends on scope, but in this guide we break down the real price ranges for the cybersecurity services most in demand among Spanish SMBs, so you can plan your budget with concrete numbers instead of vague promises.

Vulnerability assessment for SMBs: €500 to €2,500

A vulnerability assessment is the recommended starting point for an SMB that wants to know where it's exposed. It consists of a technical scan and manual review of your attack surface (exposed IPs, open ports, software versions with known CVEs, email configuration, etc.).

Typical price range:
• Small SMB (1-10 IPs, 1-2 domains): €500 – €1,000
• Medium SMB (10-30 IPs, several domains and cloud services): €1,000 – €2,500

What's included: a list of vulnerabilities with severity (CVSS), remediation recommendations and impact-based prioritization. Active exploitation isn't included — that's what a pentest does.

Pentesting for SMBs: €1,500 to €8,000

A pentest goes a step further: an expert actively tries to exploit the vulnerabilities to demonstrate their real impact. It's the difference between knowing you have an unlocked door and watching someone walk through it.

Ranges by pentest type:
• Web pentest (1 application, scoped): €1,500 – €3,500
• Internal network pentest (up to 30 hosts): €2,000 – €5,000
• Full pentest (web + network + Active Directory): €4,000 – €8,000
• E-commerce pentest with payment gateway: €2,500 – €5,000

Factors that raise the price: more hosts or URLs in scope, white-box access (source code access), included re-test, urgency.

Managed security for SMBs: €300 to €1,200/month

A managed security service (basic MSSP) includes continuous monitoring, alert management, critical patch updates and a single point of contact for incidents. For SMBs without their own IT team, it's the most efficient option.

Ranges:
• Basic service (monitoring + alerts, up to 20 endpoints): €300 – €600/month
• Mid-tier service (monitoring + incident response + monthly reports): €600 – €1,200/month

Comparison: hiring a full-time in-house security technician costs between €35,000 and €55,000/year in Spain. A managed service costs between €3,600 and €14,400/year.

NIS2 consulting for SMBs: €2,000 to €8,000

If your SMB falls within NIS2's scope (directly, or as a supplier to a company that does), you need a gap analysis, implementation of the required controls and documentation.

Ranges:
• Basic gap analysis (up to 50 employees): €2,000 – €4,000
• Gap analysis + remediation plan + documentation: €4,000 – €8,000
• Full implementation with hands-on support: €8,000 – €20,000 (depending on size)

The cost of not complying with NIS2 when it applies can be far higher: fines of up to €10 million or 2% of global turnover.

Employee cybersecurity training: €300 to €2,000

The human factor is the most exploited attack vector. A phishing simulation plus a training session for your team has a very high return relative to its cost.

Ranges:
• Phishing simulation (up to 50 employees) + report: €300 – €800
• In-person or remote training session (2-4 hours): €600 – €1,500
• Full package (simulation + training + acceptable use policy): €1,000 – €2,500

The cost of doing nothing: the real price of a cyberattack on an SMB

The average cost of a ransomware attack on a Spanish SMB exceeds €50,000 once you factor in:
• Downtime (days or weeks unable to operate).
• System and data recovery.
• Potential GDPR fines for a data breach (up to 4% of global turnover).
• Reputational damage and lost customers.
• Cost of notifying the data protection authority and affected parties.

Compared to an annual vulnerability assessment for €1,500 and a biennial pentest for €3,000, investing in preventive security has a clear ROI.

FAQ

Are there grants or subsidies for cybersecurity for SMBs in Spain?

Yes. Spain's Kit Digital (a government digitalization program for SMBs and freelancers) includes a "Cybersecurity" category with vouchers of up to €6,000 for companies with 3 to 50 employees. Some regional governments also run their own digital security grant programs. INCIBE also offers free resources and tools for SMBs.

Can I make a single investment and be permanently protected?

No. Security is an ongoing process: new vulnerabilities appear, infrastructure changes and attack techniques evolve. We recommend an annual vulnerability assessment, a pentest every 1-2 years (or after major changes) and a periodic policy review. A managed service covers the continuous monitoring piece.
